The British can`t imagine their live without sport. It plays an important role in British culture.

   The British have always been leaders in world sport. The UK has given birth to arrange of major international sports including football, rugby, cricket, netball, darts, golf, tennis, badminton and bowling. That`s why England, Scotland and Wales formed their separate National teams. In some kinds of sports these teams created a combined team, representing one more nations.

   All in all, football attracts the greatest popularity in the world. A lot of football players show their talents all over the world. Many football clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal show excellent results in the European League.

   Tennis is the highest profile sport for the two weeks of the Wimbledon Championship.

   Snooker and Darts also played but followed to a lesser degree.

   Swimming,  athletics, cycling all found wider participation too.

   The UK has played a major role in the development of sport for disabled people. The Paralympic Games were held at Mandervile Hospital in 1948.

The BBC is an enthusiastic promoter of sport for disabled.

   Racehorses is one of the most popular kind of sport. There are sixty racehorses in GB. The best of them are world class. For example Ascot was redeveloped in 2005 at a cost 185 million dollars.

   To sum up GB is the Motherland of many modern kinds of sport.
